Anyone here have several biological kids? - Adoption.com Forums

We have 4 bios. In our county we can have up to 8 kids under 18 (unless it's a sibling group, then they can get a waiver for more) but we still encountered a lot of resistance from some CWs to the idea of taking more than one or two kids. After we adopted two, we got a lot more questions about why we would want more and how can we possibly handle that many. However, any CW, CASA, therapist, GAL, etc. who actually came to our home and saw how clean and orderly it is and how great the kids are doing, always were quick to praise us and say that we do a better job with a large family than most families they know do with just one or two kids.

I won't kid you. You do get a lot more questions, skepticism, and negativity when you have a big family and want more. But as people get to know you and see how great you can do, they get much more positive and supportive. I admit, I LOVE the shock and awe reactions I get when people see us all together at grocery stores or wherever and when they find out I home school my kids and do all their hair (including corn rows and extensions, etc.). What I don't love, is the feeling like I have to be "super mom" performing above and beyond the call of duty, so to speak, in order to justify my choice to have a large family.

It's a decision that shouldn't be made lightly, but if you feel like it's what works for your family, ignore the naysayers and go for it. We are loving every moment.
